BNL Round 10: Zebras defeat Eagles in the closest game of the week

The Regular Season in BNL just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 10 in the BNL took place in Kimberley. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Eagles (1-4) to fifth ranked Zebras (2-3) 60-58 in the game for the fourth place. Zebras had a 37-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gabonese Kevin Romenoh (193-1986) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Zimbabwean power forward Thomas Rutsito (202-1997) chipped in 14 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Zebras' coach Tebogo Letshoo used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side point guard Thabiso Mogakabe (-1995) responded with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Zebras moved-up to fourth place, which they share with L.Pride. Eagles at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Egoli Magic and FS Warriors.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Potchefstroom. 4th ranked host Eagles (1-4) were smashed by second ranked Marlins (4-1) 76-45. Center Storm Gilchrist (205) notched 6 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and Bena Kabuya supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Even 11 points and 7 rebounds by point guard Thabiso Mogakabe (-1995) did not help to save the game for Eagles. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Marlins maintains second position with 4-1 record behind leader Cape Town T. Eagles at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Egoli Magic and FS Warriors.
BNL top team - Tigers (5-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Warriors (1-4) in Bloemfontein 107-36. Pieter Prinsloo fired 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks for the winners. Tigers' coach Rasheed Abdulrahman felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Prince Dube produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Undefeated Tigers have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Tigers maintains first position with 5-0 record, which they share with Tshwane S. Warriors lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Egoli Magic and NW Eagles.

In the last game of round 10 NC Zebras won against EC Windbreakers on the opponent's court 86-70.

EC Windbreakers - NC Zebras 70-86

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Windbreakers' (0-5) home loss to fifth ranked Zebras (2-3) 70-86 on Sunday. Zebras forced 19 Windbreakers turnovers and had a 38-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Zimbabwean power forward Thomas Rutsito (202-1997) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points, 23 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks for the winners. Molelekoa Maqabe chipped in 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Julian Wright (196-1990) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and Ridwaan Jobson (180-1991) added 15 points respectively for lost side. Five Zebras and four Windbreakers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zebras moved-up to fourth place, which they share with L.Pride. Loser Windbreakers still closes the standings with five games lost.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Potchefstroom. 4th ranked host Eagles (1-4) were smashed by second ranked Marlins (4-1) 76-45. Marlins held Eagles to an opponent 23.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Marlins forced 28 Eagles turnovers. Eagles were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Storm Gilchrist (205) notched 6 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and point guard Bena Kabuya (-2001) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Even 11 points and 7 rebounds by point guard Thabiso Mogakabe (-1995) did not help to save the game for Eagles. Cameroonian power forward James Amala (201-2000) added 6 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. BNL top team - Tigers (5-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Warriors (1-4) in Bloemfontein 107-36. Tigers held Warriors to an opponent 23.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Tigers forced 32 Warriors turnovers and outrebounded them 56-40 including 19 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Warriors' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tigers made 9 blocks. The former international Pieter Prinsloo (208-1992, college: Marist) fired 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks for the winners. American guard Akeem Springs (193-1994, college: Minnesota) chipped in 21 points and 5 assists. Four Tigers players scored in double figures. Tigers' coach Rasheed Abdulrahman felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
